Product Photography: Coffee & Pastries.

Our team had an extremely successful on-location photo shoot this month. We could categorize this shoot as product and food photography. Our client wanted to see process shots of coffee drinks being made as well as stylized product photographs of coffee and pastries. We used a complex lighting setup in order to accomplish a warm yet dramatic and bold set of images. We came up some excellent shots, several of which can be viewed on our main website, www.photophil.us.

In Studio: The Gangster.

While our professional photo studio predominantly shoots product photography, we love to shoot conceptual projects as well. Our website, recently redesigned, highlights these fun, conceptual photo shoots in a portfolio section titled “projects.” For one of our latest projects, we collaborated with actor, Daniel Flint, to create a dark, mysterious character as well as clothing, props, and an atmosphere that suited the character; we call this shoot “The Gangster.”

To view the entire collection of images from this shoot, visit the projects section of our portfolio at www.photophil.us.

On Location: Conceptual Photography.

One of our studio’s latest on-location photo shoots took place in a spacious dance studio – our subject: professional ballroom dancers. We transported our studio equipment to the location and spent the afternoon working with two extremely talented and beautifully photogenic individuals.

This conceptual photo shoot required a full production crew: Phil, three assistants, our hair and makeup artist, and the dance partners’ manager, who contributed to the art direction process. Using a great amount of our studio’s resources and equipment, our team built a scenic and romantic environment for the dancers to display their moves. We all worked together to create the atmosphere that we had imagined. To add to the mood of the shoot, we ran a fog machine under the backdrop, filling the hardwood floor with a layer of white clouds. Using large brooms, we contained the fog within the dancers’ posing space. Using this lighting scenario required our models to stay within a relatively small area of the set, ensuring that the lights would land where they should. Adding to the complexity of this photo shoot, our team worked to document the action, using both photography and video. These efforts are directly related to our studio’s new interest in video and viral marketing. (More exciting news to come!)

The professional photographs we produced for this team will serve as a lasting marketing tool as well as a gorgeous depiction of the couple’s incredible talent and skill. Our team had a great time producing this shoot, and, more importantly, so did our clients. Check out the finished product!

In Studio: Food Photography.

Our photo studio has been keeping very busy this month, shooting lots of new products as well as food. In our most recent food photography shoot, we collaborated with our client to put together a stunning seafood stew dish. We styled and shot the ingredients laid out on a large cutting board prior to cooking and styling the collective dish; this start-to-finish concept was conceived by our own in-house stylist, Susan Evans.

Check out the final product – looks delicious, doesn’t it? Food photography often requires the use of chemicals and other non-edible, not so tasty, substances to create and maintain a genuinely fresh and appetizing appearance. Although decorative, beautiful, and worthy of mouth-watering – we wouldn’t recommend eating this dish!

Feb 09 : Latest Portfolio Additions.

Lately our photo studio has been shooting a great deal of product photography, ranging from electronics to clothing, accessories, household items, and food. Susan Evans, the most recent addition to our studio’s team, works wonders as our in-house food and product photography stylist, ensuring appealing product placement as well as providing attention to the most minute details. In the realm of professional photography, and especially commercial photography, excessive attention to detail is integral to our process.

Recently Phil and our team had the pleasure of working with Global Pathogen Solutions, the manufacturer of a revolutionary new tool that supports health and safety in emergency situations. This cutting edge tool safely removes stun-gun darts, protecting law enforcement, military, medical, and other professionals from dangerous bloodbourne pathogens. We were very excited to collaborate with Carson Linker and GPS to create informative product photography that would aid in selling this wonderful product.

We held several shoots with GPS to accomplish various shots. Some of the most exciting images to create (shown below) were the shots illustrating the light-up and glow-in-the-dark capabilities of the product.

On Location: Apparel Photography.

This past October, our studio set out to shoot men’s apparel photography at multiple locations around NW and NE Portland, using the city’s beautiful autumn scenery as our backdrop. The product photography was requested by Norm Thompson Outfitters, a large clothing retailer based out of Hillsboro.

Below are a few of our favorite shots from the outdoor, on-location photo shoot. To see similar images, visit the fashion/apparel photography page on photophil.us.

Feeling seasonally affected?

S.A.D.: seasonal affective disorder.

All of us here at the studio are just itching to see any reminder of sunlight and summertime in these cold, dark Portland winter months. If you share our “sadness,” take a look at a stunning shot of model Starla Arnold, rocking a rad pair of shades by Spy Optic. And just like that – it almost feels like that time of year again…

Launching into 09.

Our team has worked diligently over the last several months to update and improve our main website, www.photophil.us and launch our brand new product photography site, www.studiophil.us. Our extensive portfolio of product photography and commercial/advertising photography, available on photophil.us, can be easily navigated and viewed, thanks to new flash features. Our updated site features hundreds of new images as well as two entirely new portfolio sections: projects and personal work. Another addition to our site is the aftereffects page, which highlights the post-production process by transitioning from before to after images. Within the informational section of our site, we have added a media section (containing free downloadable Philip Burnett Photography marketing materials) an FAQ section to answer all of your questions relating to professional photography and, more specifically, questions regarding product photography.

To view the new and improved website, visit www.photophil.us, and to see the brand new, product photography-only site, visit www.studiophil.us.
